13 things to do If you can’t focus in your own room

  1. Don’t work at the same place your sleep: don’t work/study on your bed, even better, in a different room!
  2. Change places you work/study: for e.g: the bedroom, the balcony, the couch, the floor…etc.
  3. Change/break your routine from time to time: If you’re used to going to work/university and coming back home eating, taking a break, and starting working again, then breaking your routine as in having lunch in a restaurant, or working from a cafe once a week is a great way to keep you refreshed.
  4. Transform your room/space into a comfortable space (candles, plants, smell, warmth,). How your room looks and smells has a huge effect on how you perform! This applies to your home & office by the way. Here’s a plant similar to mine (she is very delicate & grows without the need for sunlight!):
  5. If you’re constantly distracted, try journalling about what is really bothering/distracting you on a piece of paper. If you’re not into journalling, shoot a video or record a voice.
  6. Remove any distractions around you (dolls, books…etc.)
  7. Clean your room (I know some are more comfortable in a messy room, but trust me, cleaning does wonders!)
  8. Post motivational quotes! Here is mine from 6 years ago (I changed it now of course):
  9. Use a table lamp (or a bright light) to focus
  10. Get in the mood. Connect certain habits to work or study. This means: you choose certain music, sound, or drink (coffee or tea), or even a special mug, and program your mind to connect it to focus & concentration.
  11. Remove any (& all electronic gadgets). If you’re working/studying on your phone/laptop/tablet, limit your access to anything but your study material/work! There are certain apps you can use for that.
  12. Set boundaries. Make it clear to everyone that you’re not to be bothered during this time!
  13. If you have noisy flatmates/roommates, buy noise-cancelling headphones, or consider working outside your house (during the hours they’re at home). Or you can change your sleeping habits temporarily until you solve the living situation!
