My Struggle with Noise
Four years ago, I moved into a peaceful one-bedroom studio in a residential-commercial complex. It was a haven for me-quiet, serene, and home to long-term tenants like students, working professionals, and families. For someone like me, who struggles with anxiety and misophonia, this environment was a blessing.
But over the past year, my sanctuary turned into a nightmare. The building transformed into “neighbors-from-hell edition.” My stress levels skyrocketed, and my sleep deteriorated as I dealt with loud music, shouting, and constant noise.

Why I Needed a Solution
At first, I tried everything. I spoke with the neighbors, argued with them, and even resorted to wearing headphones. Nothing worked. Moving out wasn’t an option at the time, and I felt trapped.
That’s when I decided to look for a permanent solution. After extensive research and many late nights scrolling through Reddit, I discovered the concept of white-noise machines.
Trial and Error: Finding My Unicorn Speaker
I initially purchased a few white-noise machines, thinking they were the answer. But they didn’t quite meet my needs. The quality of sounds for some wasn’t that great, others didn’t block enough noise (and were not loud enough), and the whole idea of a white-noise machine felt “limiting”; like, what if I wanted to play songs or a podcast…etc.??

Here’s what I love about it:
- My biggest concern was the battery!! Some speakers in the same price range said they needed like 4-5 hours to charge, and will the speaker would stay charged for 12 or 10 hours. Well, this one preceded my expectations!! It would play for 8 hours/night (for three nights straight) without needing to be charged. By doing some small tricks (like: turning off the button lights, keep the sound at the same level, and keep the same one record play on repeat)
- Loud for its size. Like, I’ve tried multiple speakers, the sound goes much lower when the size gets smaller.
- Depending on how big your apartment, you can action buy another speaker and connect them both together and let them play at the same time. I loved that feature!!
- I loved the color!!
- I loved the strap!! (I haven’t yet taken her out of the house, but if I did, the strap really looks super intact!!)
